The history in the name
A library was once a book hoard.
Bochords draws from the Old English idea of a bōc-hord—literally, a hoard of books. Not a pile to be hidden, but a treasury of knowledge, imagination, memory, and inheritance.
The word is no invention — bochord appears in Kersey’s Dictionarium Anglo-Britannicum of 1708, three centuries before it found its way here.
Readers do not merely acquire books. They remember where they found them, which edition they chose, who recommended them, and how each story changed them.
